History of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church


Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, located in the East Germantown section of the city, traces its origin back to 1868. The cornerstone of the Immaculate Conception Chapel was laid on July 19, 1875. As the parish grew, the major task of building the basement church began in 1910. In 1911 the "Lower Church" was blessed by Archbishop Patrick Ryan. On June 1,1930, the "Upper Church" was solemnly dedicated by Auxiliary Bishop Gerald P. O'Hara.
